Responding to the Truth

A testimony by Michael Torres

In the Lord's service

"For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior; who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth."  (1 Timothy 2:3-4)

Our Lord desires all men to be saved and come to The knowledge of the truth. What is the truth He wants us to know? I remember, in 1983, when God saved me. I prayed for the truth. I remember being very confused. I thought about all the different religions of the world and wondered, can they all be right? Do all roads lead to heaven? If all religions don't lead us to God, than how am I to know which one is right?

It was only a short time, after that day, when the Bible came into my life. I prayed for the truth and realized that this was in answer to my prayer. The psalmist wrote "Thy word is true from the beginning: and everyone of Thy righteous judgments endureth forever." (Psalm 119:160)

What is truth according to the Bible? First, Our Lord takes no pleasure in anyone perishing. "For I have no pleasure in the death of him that dieth, saith the Lord God: wherefore turn yourselves, and live ye." (Ezekiel 18:32) He also tells us that He is long suffering towards us (2 Peter 3:9), that means He's patient with us, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. Now repentance is a change of mind and heart, once we understand our true condition according to God's Holy standard. The Apostle Paul tells us, in his epistle to the Roman Church, "For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God." (Romans 3:23) King Solomon, the second wisest man to ever live, wrote, "For there is not a just man upon earth, that doeth good, and sinneth not." (Ecclesiastes 7:20) Our sin has brought us condemnation and death, because Our Lord has decreeded that the soul that sins shall surely die (Ezikiel 18:4).

If that were the only thing the Bible taught, we would all perish. But, there is GOOD NEWS! The gospel of Jesus Christ! As we read in Romans, "For the wages of sin is death: but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ, Our Lord." (Romans 6:23). God came to earth and manifested Himself (in human flesh) in the person of Jesus Christ. He offered Himself as the Lamb of God (without spot or blemish) that only the shedding of His precious blood would satisfy God's righteous requirements for the penalty of our sins.

I prayed for the truth and God answered my prayer. You see, it is not a religion that reconciles us to God, but a personal relationship with Our Lord Jesus Christ. It is not what we do that reconciles us with God, rather it is the finished work of Christ that provides reconciliation, for as we read in 2 Corinthians, "To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto Himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them: and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation." (2 Corinthians 5:19) God was in Christ reconciling the world onto Himself. Only by trusting in His (Christ's) finished work on the cross, personally receiving Him as Lord and Savior, can we be made right with God.

My friend, have you put your trust in Christ? Have you acknowledged your own sinful state, realizing He is a Holy God who is of purer eyes than to look upon upon your iniquity? My friend, God desires all men to be saved and come to the knowledge of the truth. I urge you to respond to the truth of the Bible. Cast yourself upon His mercy, and He will cleanse you and fill you with a new joy in your life like you have never known before.

Awakened by the Spirit

A Testimony by Joseph DelOrfano

In the Lords Service

My name is Joseph DelOrfano, a typical and routinely average person reared by a devoted mother who followed the dictates of the Roman Catholic Church. By dictates I refer to their beliefs in infant baptism and the idea of studying their doctrine as the only material needed for salvation! Upon receiving confirmation I was led to believe I had nothing to worry about, my place in heaven was secure for ever. My obligation now was to follow the Ten Commandments, or at least do the best I could, and if fault arrose, confess my sins to a man.

Years passed and I, as countless other members of the church, became non-participating woshipers. I felt good because my wife and sons were attending church and doing what was expected from them and my sons were fulfilling the same rituals I had completed as a child. My obligation to GOD regressed to driving my family to church. I waited for an hour in the outside in the parking lot. Then I drove everyone home. This brought contentment to my heart.

This was routine for forty years of my life, and as I stated earlier, I did the best I could. I volunteered in all social events and (other functions). I did good Samaritan works, whenever possible, and I proudly looked at my lifes' accomplishments and said to myself all is well, but thankfully God was not finished molding me. He had other plans for me in His Infinite Eternal Plan.

Through my wife, God commenced His work on me. As I stated, she was more devout in her worship and she was touched by the Spirit before me. She began to question man's religion and found that it left too many unanswered questions. Questions such as The Who? Why? and How the Bible applied to her life. God willed her to place her Bible near my favorite chair thereby putting into motion the beginning of the rest of my life.

In all of my forty years on earth I had never picked up a Bible except to admire the cover or look at the pictures. I am not a reader of books. I am what you may call a peruser. I read the beginning, the middle and the end of any book I open. My intention was to do exactly that with the Bible. However, the Holy Spirit had Other plans because He kept drawing my attention to the middle of the Bible, in particular I kept returning to the Gospel of John. Yes, through the writing of John, in particular John 3:16, God graciously opened my eyes to understand the simple truths of the who of the Bible, Jesus Christ, The way of the Bible, to reconcile me, a sinner, unto Himself and the How of the Bible, by revealing to me the only way I could be plucked from Satan's grasp, in this earthly life and my spiritual eternal life was to simply believe the Gospel, the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ ( God in the flesh) reconciling my relationship with Him by fulfilling and being the Perfect Sinless Sacrifice. I realized too that man's religion was man's ,mortal idea on how we should work our way into God's Heaven. Man changed the words of God, insisting that somehow earning something as a free gift is foolishness, thereby establishing the backbone of all of man's False Religions!

Friend, I saw nothing nor heard any voice, as the Apostle Paul experienced on the road to Damascus, but, for a certainty my life was changed and my heart became a heart of Thankfulness, since that glorious day in 1974, when I accepted the Who, Why and How of the Bible. May the reading of this testimony prompt you, the reader who is searching, to fill a void in your personal life and to be compelled by the Spirit of God to pursue the Holy Words of God in the bible and partake of the Peace and rest God offers you Freely.
